Ever noticed there's no manual or lesson plan on how to actively listen, focus, and work well in groups? Consider the following ways to make the rules of engagement (e.g., "how to listen") more explicit to all students!

PRO TIPS:

• Use positive language (e.g., what to do, not what not to do)

• When possible, especially for younger students, use body-based language

• Introduce them in a gradual release model (e.g., I model, you practice, we do)

• Create a set of expectations for each activity structure (e.g., whole group instruction, small groups/partners, and independent activities)
